I use these catheters every day to dilate the area around a urethral stricture. I use the 1xx series (where xx is the French rating, i.e., 116 = 16fr). This type has a smooth, straight tip. The 4xx series has a "couda tip", which has a crook in it. If you are not aware of the crook, and if you do not insert it carefully, you can do some serious damage to yourself. I speak from experience; a local vendor gave me a box of 416 catheters when I asked for 116. Coloplast is not the only vendor with a couda tip so do be careful what you order.

For years, under the recommendation of a doctor, I have been using a different medical supplier for my catheters. However after a quick search on the internet I found STL MS. They were able to provide me with the exact same product for a third of the price. Thanks STL, it nice to know not all medical suppliers have to gouge you on the price.

I've been required to perform intermittent self-catheterization for my entire life. Mentor (now called Coloplast) has been the best for years for comfort, consistency and reliability. However, something happened during the transition from Mentor-branding to Coloplast-branding... the quality dropped unexpectedly. The firmness (and sometimes thickness) of the plastic greatly increased (we're talking 1000ths of inches, but when you are doing something this delicate you notice!) and on occasion I would find catheters where the eyelets were not drilled out at all, rendering it useless. The thicker plastic seemed more abrasive as well. It was not comfortable to use. My CONS are directly referring to this period, which was a hit-and-miss for about 6 months. Fortunately, my more recent orders have seen a shift in quality back to softer, polished, more supple and gentle plastic. Since Dec.2012 (the last 2 months) I've not run into any bad batches, nor have I come across catheters missing eyelets. Let's hope the trend continues. These issues aside, if you're required to do intermittent catheterization, I do recommend Coloplast over others. It's much more comfortable than the rubber catheters.

Some of the other catheters i have tried could not get through the scar tissue I have following surgery. This product is just stiff enough that you can push it through rather than "try to push a rope"

I have used these caths for five years and they work perfectly. But get this; I was out cutting trees with a chain saw when the tiny gas line in the tank broke off. I looked around my shop for a replacement line and found nothing. That is until I relized the chain saw gas line looked just like a #14 French cath. I took a used cath, cut it to size and replaced the line in the gas tank and continued using the saw until I could get a replacement gas line ordered. Thanks!

Compared to the conventional rubber catheters, this plastic type is a life-saver. It goes in easily, and comes out just as easily. There is no chafing, no catching, no bunching up, and, most of all, no injury that might have to professionally repaired.
